hello substack!
because short and long form just isn't enough of an ego scratch
Reporting live from a shoebox airbnb in the suburbs of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan where our two double beds fill the entire space, touching each other and 3 of 4 walls, with a ladder extending up to a storage loft where I spend most days hiding and planning our next trip - 4 weeks across mainland China.
Nick and I (hi! Rhea) have been living like this since january, when we did the big nyc corporate quit and fucked off to Asia with a $50,000 and the dream of never getting another slack notification. since then, we’ve hopped to 8 countries in asia (turkiye to thailand, then vietnam, malaysia, long stint in japan, on to hong kong, taiwan, korea and now back in japan exploring the north), gained at least 20 lbs each, and vlogged the whole ordeal to our accumulated 6.5K youtube subscribers (@rheaandnick).
and now! we join substack to yap du jour about travel, life, food, culture, money. this is where we’ll share travel budget updates (it’s not looking good), our inner monologues as we continue this psychotic adventure, and our favorite (actually good!) recs from around the world.
if you restaurant scout on reddit, not tiktok, this substack is for you. if you’d like to rinse $2 noodles down with a crisp glass of natty wine in Saigon, this substack is for you. if that sentence made you cringe, this substack is for you. welcome and ttys!
